What are visitor filters?

Visitor Filters For Advertisers

eBesucher offers their partners a wide range of options with which they can promote their advertising campaign in a target-group-specific manner. The campaign can thus be filtered by, among other things, browser, operating system, screen resolution or connection speed of the visitor. Blow a list and explanation of the visor filters.

Please note: many visitor filters are only available for Premium or Premium Plus members.

Browser-Targeting

The following visitor filters can be applied through the Browser Targeting. All of these filters can be set individually for each campaign and can be modified in the portal for advertisers, see: Visitors > Manage campaigns > Edit campaign > Browser Targeting.

Filter through the browser type Filter through the browser type

The impressions of the advertised website can be controlled according to the used browser. You can choose to only allow specific browser to access yyour campaign. You can choose between Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer, Opera and Other (all other browsers).

Filtering the Browser can be useful for an advertiser whose website relies on newer technologies which are not yet supported by all browsers.

Filter through the browser language Filter through the browser languag

The impressions of the advertised website can be determined according to the used browser language. The browser language defines the language in which a website is rendered. Most browsers provide the ability to specify more than one language. in such a case, eBesucher assumes that the first browser language is the users main language or a language that is common to him. All other languages that are listed in the browser interface are described as a secondary languages.

DNS blacklist Filter through a dns blacklist

Access from a device that is connected through an IP adress which is listed on a DNS-blacklist, can be restricted. IP adresses who are listed on a DNS-blacklist are often classified as belonging to devices that are infected with trojan horses or other malicious software. In addition, many public access points sich as restaurants or cafés with public Wi-Fi or even mobile networks (LTE) can be found on such a list.

Filter through the operating system Filter through the OS

Filter through the internet provider Filter through the internet provider

The advertiser can disallow impressions that derive from specific internet providers. He can choose from a database that contains several thousand providers. Furthermore, devices can be filtered which are connected to the Internet via a virtual private network (VPN). Using a VPN connection allows a user to to create a secure connection to the Internet. Thus, the physical Internet connection is reduced to a mere extension cord which connects the device with the VPN. In most cases, it is not possible to determine the physical Internet connection once you are connected with a VPN. We therefore recommend to always choose the option to Prohibit VPN connections.

Filter through the DNS-Hostname Filter through the DNS-Hostname Premium Membership

The advertiser can exclude impressions that derive from a specific DNS-Hostname. A hostname allows to identify the network operator. For example: a typical hostname of a device that is connected to the network of the Deutsche Telekom would be * .t ipconnect.de. If this hostname is selected, the advertised website will no longer receive impressions from that device.

Require a minimal screen resolution Require a minimal screen resolution Premium Membership

In order to ensure that the advertised site will be directly visible in the surfbar, the advertiser can require a minimal screen resolution. If that feature has been activated, the advertised site will not be displayed to those devices, whose screen resolution is inferior to defined value.

Require a minimal screen resolution

Require a minimal connection speed Require a minimal connection speed Premium Membership

A device which is connected to the Internet often runs different process tasks which are using up the available bandwidth. This has a negative impact on the effective connection speed. Therefore, eBesucher frequently measures the connection speed of each user. This feature allows the advertiser to exclude devices that have a slow internet connection. The value of the minimum required bandwidth can be determined freely.

Other visitor filters can be activated in the portal for advertisers, see Visitors > Manage campaigns > Edit campaign > Cost and consumption.

Retention time (time of visit) Define Retention time

The advertiser can determine the amount of time that a website should be displayed in the surfbar. The minimum amount of time is 15 seconds and can be extended in increments of 15 seconds to a maximum of 10 minutes. The time of visit affects the total costs of an impression.

Example: an impression that lasts 60 seconds is twice as expensive as an impression of 30 seconds.

We recommend to not set the time of visit to less than 30 seconds. A low retention time might prevent certain elements of your page, such as external counters or statistics, to be loaded correctly. As a result, those impressions can often not be counted by third parties.

Format of display Format of display

Determining the format of display allows you to promote a website as a standalone campaign in the surfbar! In order to apply this feature, please go to the field Format of display, and choose the option Entire page when adding your website. By activating this feature, your website will receive the whole advertising space and no second website of another advertiser will be displayed next to it. This has two major advantages:

Note: because the impression covers twice as much advertising space, the costs are twice as high.

Visitor-Session Visitor Session

The visitor session allows you to display up to 5 consecutive visits to the same surfbar user. This allows external webcounters such as Google Analytics to determine a session duration. Measuring a session duration is necessary in order to define a meaningful bounce rate. The visitor session thus allows you to optimize your statistics in Google Analytics.

Advanced visibility test Advanced visibility test

The advanced visibility test is a further measure that aims to ensure a consistent stream of high quality advertising. If this feature is activated, our system will use the HTML5 Visibility API in order to assess whether the website is displayed within the visible area of the screen. The impression will only be counted unless the visibility test delivers a positive result.

IP-Suspension IP-Suspension

The IP-Suspension allows the advertiser to receive unique hits instead of impressions. The time interval, during which a single visitor should not access the website multiple times, can be freely determined. Using the IP-suspension costs an additional visitor exchange point (BTP):

Auto-scroll page content Auto-scroll page content Premium Membership

The advertiser can have his website scrolled automatically from top to bottom and from left to right. This enhances the visibility of websites that cover a large area of the screen. The amount of pixels that the website should be scrolled can be determined freely. Note: this effect costs an additional 0,2 BTP for each impression.

Hide Referrer Hide referrer Premium Membership

The referrer is the URL of the original website, from which the user connects to the target page. When accessing the target page, the referrer will be transmitted to the server of the target page. In order to protect your privacy, an advertiser can choose to anonymize the referrer. The following options are available:
