The largest shopping mall in the world is the "New South China Wall" in the Chinese city of Dongguan. It was build in 2005 and covers an incredible area of approximately 124 football fields (more than 9,000,000 square foot), which is unparalleled in a global comparison. However, it must be noted that most of the rentable areas and stores remain unused, as the region is lacking customers and dealers alike. To this day, the "New South China Mall" is therefore considered one of the biggest planning mistakes of the recent times.
